JK: REAL OLDIES 1430 DEMO (6-27-2003)

AT THE END OF JUNE IN 2003,  Bonneville International  decided to change the Format of its St. Louis A.M. Station, WRTH/1430.

WRTH, for many years, had been a great "music of your life"type station playing Pat Boone, Johnny Mathis, Henry Mancini,  Rosemary Clooney, et al, and doing a very good job of it.

IN FACT,   for eight years during that time, WRTH had run my classic "Golden Age Radio" Series "THE BREAKFAST SERIAL"...which had been a mainstay-Morning Feature for the station and, again, reinforced its long-running cult status in the market.

The new format of the station was to be oldies-based with the station being called : REAL OLDIES 1430.   As the set-up of the format was being preped, I was asked to do a Demo for the new station and was more than happy to oblige.

All who know me understand my love of, history with, and, knowledge of "Oldies" !    SO what you're listening to is that rare, never-before heard, Demo Aircheck that I cut for "Real Oldies1430" on June 27, 2003.   It's been in my Personal Archives for years and I wanted to share it with you.

I hope you enjoy listening to it, as much as I enjoyed making it !  It's short, but it's fun !   JK

THE VOICE YOU HEAR on the "Real Oldies 1430" Station I.D.'s is that of  CHARLIE VAN DYKE.   Charlie began his career as a DJ and worked in many cities & major markets like Detroit, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, and many others.  He later went into mainly doing voice-over work which he continues to do today.  He does custom I.D.'s, promos & spots for radio & tv stations across the country, and has done them for both KTVI-TV , and, KSDK-TV, in St. Louis.

In all the years I've been in Broadcasting, I've never had the opportunity to meet Charlie but I've always appreciated his work, and I wanted to mention this so that you'd be aware of the great talent that he is.  JK
